Pie Meeting Saturday 3rd January 2015

World Events

Ladies Oxford vs Cambridge boat race to be held on the same day as the men’s.

Pies

Howard   Small pie, well baked with crispy pastry that was soggy in parts. Coarse meat lacked flavour. Lot of jelly.

Score   5.0/10

Tim   Does not look fresh, and does not taste fresh. Well filled with even jelly. No spice and not much salt. Pork tasted off!

Score   2.0/10

Kevin   Big pie! Short pastry, lardy on the bottom. Full to the brim with meat. Not spicy but tasty meat. Fresh and I enjoyed it.

Score   8.0/10

Peter   Average sized pie! Do we all need glasses? Three different size estimates. Fresh crisp pastry and tasty meat.

Score   7.0/10

Mark   Average size and packed with meat. Gaps filled with jelly. Needed more pepper.

Huddersfield Town win today. Halifax win in FA trophy round.

Pies

Richard   Oval shape - is it a Lancashire pie?  Soggy pastry – has the jelly soaked in?  Very nice meat, very spicey, compact.  Nice size. Liked it.

Score   7.5/10

Pete   Oval. Reminiscent of Holts of Halifax. Soft pastry Well filled, peppery. Enjoyed it.

Score   8.0/10

Kevin   A pie from the past. Holt look- a –like. Soft, doughy, tasteless pastry. Excellent jelly, lovely peppery meant. Would have been a great pie but for the pastry.

Score   7.0/10

Mark   Like a Waites’ pie. Soft pastry. Bit cold. Liberal amounts of jelly. Bland meat in my pie. Alright pie.

Score   5.5/10

Tim   “Hell, it’s got some pepper in it”  Left without scoring. Howard says he would have given it.

Score   7.0/10

Howard   Unusual shaped pie. Soggy pastry. Well filled.  Plenty of tasty jelly. Tasty meat, but too fine for me.  Plenty of after burn.

Pies

Tim   Fresh as a daisy. Looked like it had been dropped since meat on one side. No after burn or spice. Pastry alright. 7

Howard   Well presented pie. Pastry fresh but too much of it. Quite a bit of jelly but not much taste to it. Meat coarse but greasy.No spice or afterburn. Bland. 6

Mark   Shallow pie. Lovely pastry, sweet and nutty. Nice succulent meat.

Score   8.5/10

Kevin   Rustic looking pie. Fresh pastry. No jelly. Well filled. Bland taste.

Score   6.5/10

Peter   Fresh and crisp pastry. Succulent meat. Enjoyed it.

Score   8.0/10

Bradford  beat Chelsea 4-2 at Chelsea after being 2–0 down.

Man City lose 2 – 0 against Middlebough.

Southhampton lose against Crystal Palace 2-3.

Pies

Peter   Big pie with dark, crisp pastry.  Well filled with tasty spicy meat. A nice pie.

Score   8.0/10

Howard   Large pie very pale ( half were light and half dark)  Well filled with meat,quite a bit of jelly,coarse meat  Peter ( guest)

The overcooked dark pie had crunchy pastry but not a lot of jelly. The pale pie was lardy. Meat of the dark one was spicy.

Score   8.0/10 for the dark one 5.0/10 for the light one.

Julie (Guest)

Dark pie was well filled with crispy pastry. Meat was bland and not enough jelly.

Score   7.0/10 Paler pie was bland lardy and soggy pastry  6.0/10 

Mark   Dark pie only, Nice crispy pastry quite thin and well packed with meat. No room for jelly. Nice meat but a bit creasy. Not very spicy but good afteburn.
